About this tour

Tour of Shkoder and Kruje Day Trip From Tirana!

Kruja and Shkodër are both historical and cultural cities in Albania, each with its unique charm and significance.

Kruja is best known as the hometown of Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. Skanderbeg led a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century and successfully defended Kruja against Ottoman sieges for several decades. Kruja’s old bazaar is a well-preserved Ottoman-style market where visitors can explore traditional Albanian crafts, including handmade rugs, textiles, and souvenirs.

Shkodër is located near Lake Shkodër, one of the largest lakes in the Balkans. The lake is shared between Albania and Montenegro and is known for its rich biodiversity. It’s a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Shkodër has a strong Venetian influence due to its historical ties with the Republic of Venice. This influence is evident in the architecture, particularly in buildings like the Rozafa Castle. Legend has it that a woman named Rozafa was buried alive in the castle walls to ensure its construction remains strong.

Both Kruja and Shkodër have played crucial roles in Albania’s history and offer visitors a glimpse into the country’s rich cultural heritage.
